Accounting Manager -Salaried Exempt

The Lakefront, Anchorage hotel (formerly the Millennium Hotel) is recruiting for salaried exempt, (not subject to overtime) Accounting Manager to join our team. At the Lakefront Anchorage Hotel, we strive to deliver a memorable experience for our guests. Situated on the shores of scenic Lake Spenard, one mile from Anchorage International Airport and four miles from downtown Anchorage, the Lakefront Anchorage Hotel is the perfect starting point to explore the many wonders Alaska has to offer. The Lakefront Anchorage Hotel boasts 248 rooms and three outstanding food and beverage outlets.

The role of the Accounting Manager is to assist in coordinating the efforts of the Accounting Department to ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial data.  Assists in developing and implementing procedures and policies to safeguard the assets of the hotel. Takes ownership in performing responsibilities in an effective and efficient manner.


Typical duties of the Accounting Manager include:

  • Back up Check Signer for the Director of Finance.
  • Responsible for creating Standard Operating Procedures received from Corporate HQ.
  • Responsible for training and supervising and hiring accounting staff.  Schedules staff and workloads.
  • Assist Accounting personnel with work, when available and is the back up for staff positions.
  • Perform house bank and safe audits at least once per month or more often if required.
  • Monitors and reconciles credit card payments. 
  • Ensure proper credit card and batch processing, collection and daily cash and credit card reconciliations.
  • Performs daily income audit and journal entries prior to posting and distribution.
  • Assists with month-end close, including, but not limited to, journal entries, accruals, analysis and schedules.
  • Checks and reconciles General Ledger accounts and bank statements.
  • Prepares monthly balance sheet analysis and work papers.
  • Processes/reviews bi-weekly payrolls and works closely with HR and managers regarding accuracy of payroll and final checks.
  • Reconcile leave sheets to ADP payroll and works with ADP to correct any errors.
  • Prepare and file occupancy, meals, sales and use tax returns.
  • Assists with ensuring tax obligations are met and taxes are properly collected and disbursed.
  • Ensure internal and external questions are followed up within 48 hours.
  • Maintains regular attendance and is consistently on time.
  • Maintains an open line of communication between internal and external individuals.

 

The successful applicant will:

  • Have a A.S. or B.S. degree in Accounting/Finance, hotel experience preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience, with minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • The individual must be able to maintain confidential information at all times.
  • Knowledge and ability to use a General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll software applications.
  • Knowledge of GAAP.
  • Understand cash flow, forecasting, and spreadsheets.
  • Very Proficient in Microsoft Excel and MS Office Suite applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to operate a 10-key by touch.
  • Must be a detail oriented, organized and a flexible individual.
  • Be able to make decisions as needed, involving Management when necessary.
  • Ability to deal effectively with internal and external concerns in a friendly and positive manner.  This involves listening to the nature of the concern, demonstrating empathy with the customer and providing positive and proactive solutions.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English to communicate effectively with fellow employees and guests in a tactful and professional manner.
  • Prior experience in one or more of the following financial accounting systems preferred Great Plains, SAGE, SAP, Oracle, etc.
  • Prior experience in hotel systems preferred (i.e. Micros, Opera, etc.).
  • Work as a productive team member by contributing positive energy.
  • Be professional and respectful in all interactions with guests and associates.
